Job Summary
Intramural Sports Officials work in sports leagues after taking part in trainings. They officiate intramural games, interacting with players, enforcing rules, and maintaining a safe game environment. Officials are encouraged to work multiple sports including some that may be new to them. Sports Officials report to student Intramural Coordinators and the Director of Recreational Services.
Work will be at University sports facilities including outdoor fields, the Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center, and the LP Tennis Center. Work hours are generally between 4pm and 11pm on weekdays and Sundays. Shifts generally last 1-3 hours. Staff meetings and trainings take place on Sunday evenings, with a few taking place during the week.
Core duties
- Officiate intramural sports leagues for students, faculty, and staff. Officials are encouraged to work multiple sports, but it is not required. Sports include flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, team handball, ultimate, and more.
- Attend required training clinics covering rules, mechanics, and safety prior to working games; learn rules & mechanics and improve throughout season
- Set up facilities for sports, check in players at game sites, record scores, break down equipment and clean up facilities after games, return equipment and scoresheets to appropriate locations
- Maintain safe and sportsmanlike game environment, enforce policies and rules in fair and neutral manner. Manage injuries and emergencies on-site, contact EMS if necessary
- Officials are expected to improve their skills as leagues progress. Demonstrated skill and performance may affect future scheduling.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.

- Interest in sports and officiating.

- Experience officiating sports
- Experience playing sports
Physical requirements
- Officiating sports can include vigorous activity. Officials should be able to keep up with the flow of play, change directions, and have visual acuity that allows seeing game action clearly.
