Sports Park Grounds Supervisor

Summary: Responsible for developing and scheduling a turf maintenance program for the City of Greenville’s 110-acre Sports Park. Includes but not limited to overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of athletic fields, medians and common areas in the Sports Park. Reports to Assistant Director.

Essential Functions:

• This position is responsible for monitoring, evaluating and managing the day-to-day operations of the turf technicians for all athletic fields and surrounding areas.
• Develop, implement, and maintain field management, preventative maintenance calendars, fertilization, cultural practices, mowing, irrigation, field painting and preparation for athletic practices, contests and game day set up.
• Inventory and ordering all athletics department tools, field paint, fertilizer, and fields.
• Supervise and work with field management crew.
• Monitor game day preparation and management by consistent field management and manicuring: including, but not limited to: use of string line trimmer, edger, and blower; use zero turn mower, push mower and fairway reel mowers.
• Perform inspections of al athletic fields.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science or equivalent combination of education and experience or any experiences that qualifies the candidate.
• Three to Five years of experience in athletic field management.
• Texas Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Cultural practices including, but not limited to; Infield materials, Aerifying, Verti cutting, Topdressing, Raking, boom and backpack spraying (fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, fungicide), granular broadcast applications, Over seeding, Air2G, and re-sodding.
• Installation, modification, and expansion of irrigation systems to meet the evolving needs of the athletic fields, common and landscape areas.
• Field painting: including, but not limited to; mixing paint, preparing painter and cleaning afterwards, running string lines painting a variety of athletic fields on natural grass.

Ability to:

• Communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
• Estimate labor, materials, and tools necessary for projects.
• Read and interpret blueprints and property maps.
• Operate computer, calculator, and other office equipment.
• Adapt to frequently changing conditions or needs.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work in all types of weather
• Work some weekends , holidays and be “On Call” as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously lift and carry up to 10 pounds
• Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
• Frequently stand and walk during a shift
• Frequently climb ladders, ramps or other inclined surfaces
• Frequently sit, bend and kneel during the shift
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
• Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
• Frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height
• Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle or equipment

SALARY: $28.85 Hourly/$60,008.00 Annually
