Position Description
Prepare detailed estimates for the project based on the design documents, narratives, and specifications, focusing on the Electrical/Technology/LV System trades. Reports to: Preconstruction Manager / MEP Manager.
Responsibilities
- Communicate electrical estimate and scopes of work to Turner staff, architects, engineers, and owners.
- Prepare complete quantity take-offs, analysis, estimate, and studies for Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage (LV) system items incorporated in the assigned scope—from conceptual design through completed construction documents. Preliminary design work may be required to complete conceptual estimates.
- Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents (plans, specifications) to determine required scope not already indicated.
- Develop relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of lighting, distribution equipment, low voltage systems, and other material pricing.
- Develop working relationships with local Electrical, Technology, and LV System trade partners to build and maintain a robust list of qualified bidders for projects.
- Perform constructability analysis of project documents and communicate design and constructability issues to the project team in accordance with the project contract.
- Provide first costs analysis and participate in life-cycle analysis with the Design team.
- Coordinate with Operations staff and fellow estimators to address General Conditions and General Requirements (GC/GR) items in the estimate, including temporary heating/cooling, electrical, power and lighting, and electricity consumption during construction.
- Coordinate equipment pricing with Turner Logistics for Electrical, Technology, and LV system estimates.
- Develop value analyses to define cost-efficient alternatives for Electrical, Technology, and LV system materials and equipment.
- Serve as liaison with Engineers, Design consultants, trade partners, Turner staff, and owner’s representatives to resolve cost-efficient Electrical, Technology, and LV system issues in preconstruction.
- Prepare and assemble estimates and proposals for different contract types (e.g., lump sum, GMP, Cost Plus).
- Participate in estimate reviews with the Design team and client.
- Participate in project hand-off to Operations and ensure proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations.
- Author scope requisitions for bidding and/or procurement of Electrical, Technology, and LV systems; coordinate with estimating team to ensure complete scope without gaps or overlaps.
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work; manage risk of scope gaps.
- Assist project staff in evaluating large change orders.
- Gather and analyze cost-efficient Electrical, Technology, and LV system bid data; maintain historical cost databases; use Turner system breakdown sheets.
- Utilize quantification and cost-estimating tools and software used by the local business unit.
- May supervise Assistant MEP Estimators, Estimating Assistants, and/or Interns.
- Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited engineering program and minimum of 3 years related estimating experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of Electrical, Technology, and Low Voltage Systems.
- Ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule to formulate comprehensive cost analyses for Electrical, Technology, and LV Systems.
- Ability to collaborate with vendors, trade partners, and project team members.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills to deliver presentations with confidence.
- Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office; quick to adapt to new technology.
- Supervisory experience desired.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is estimated to be $90,000.00 - 145,000.00 annualized, representing the good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at posting.
