Job Summary
Utilizes the nursing process to promote and restore patient health; collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; provides physical and psychological support to patients, family members and significant others; and supervises assigned team members. Maintains clinical judgment through data gathering, assessment, nursing intervention and evaluation of health problems, including health teaching and supportive care, aligned with standards and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: ADN, Diploma or Bachelors of Science in Nursing
- New graduate RN’s who acquire their generic RN education through an online program will not meet LMC minimum qualifications
Minimum Years of Experience: None
- Critical Care, Medical/Surgical, Intermediate, and Emergency Department units require post-graduation experience unless the candidate has completed LMC\'s Nurse Residency Program.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Current RN license to practice in the State of South Carolina.
- Refer to Mandatory Certification Requirements P&P for required education/certification for various nursing specialties.

Essential Functions
PATIENT CARE AND SUPPORT
- Establishes positive rapport with patient and family.
- Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
- Promotes patient independence through education on condition, medications, and self-care.
- Serves as patient/family advocate and maintains continuity of care through documentation and communication.
- Applies critical-thinking to data gathering, assessment, and nursing judgment.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and ethical decision making.
CLINICAL WORK QUALITY
- Adheres to therapeutic standards and evaluates outcomes against goals and standards.
- Participates in process improvement and evidence-based practice.
- Maintains a safe, clean environment and adheres to infection control and medication procedures.
- Documents all patient care activities accurately and timely.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
- Ensures operation of equipment and maintains inventories.
- Uses effective teamwork and responds promptly to patient needs.
- Performs environmental checks as required by policy.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintains professional knowledge through continuing education and training.
- Meets attendance and service expectations and maintains required certifications.
- Completes safety training and mandatory classes and health requirements.
- Adheres to hazardous waste handling guidelines and completes RCRA training within specified timelines.
- Maintains a minimum of 15 hours of continuing education annually in the specialty.
