Overview
To provide direct nursing care to the residents, patients, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by the nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, ensuring that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Complete all administrative functions as outlined in the job description.
- Perform all tasks as an RN pertaining to the Drug Administration tasks of the job, as outlined in the job description.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Ensure that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another.
- Maintain an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Prepare rooms for new admissions and greet admitted residents, escort them to their rooms, and participate in their orientation to the facility.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary and consult with the resident’s physician in providing the resident’s care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc., as necessary.
- Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) by authorized government agencies as requested.
- Review and assist in updating the resident’s discharge plan; plan the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan as necessary.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
- Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit to the Business Office as required.
- Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary; ensure accurate charting and documentation upon admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans and to sign orders and progress notes in accordance with established policies.
- Receive telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form; transcribe physician orders to resident charts, medication cards, and care plans as required.
- Chart nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting the care provided and the resident’s response to care.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during treatments and examinations; observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisor or physician as needed.
- Take vital signs to detect deviations from normal and monitor progress.
- May lead a group of personnel rendering nursing care to a number of patients.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, report suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure, and adhere to residents’ rights.
- Performs other work-related and nursing care functions/duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active RN license to practice as an RN in this state.
- BLS/CPR and AED Certification is required.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
- Must be a supportive team member and demonstrate teamwork.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when warranted and to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and be willing to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, policies and procedures necessary for providing quality care.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and be willing to handle difficult residents; willing to seek out new methods and adapt them into nursing practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition; must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and meet all other physical and sensory requirements of the job.
Schedule
32 hours per week, Rotating Nights 11:00 PM–7:00 AM, Every Other Weekend and Rotating Holidays. Sign-On Bonus Eligible.
