About The Unit

4CN is a twelve-bed unit providing care for a diverse patient population including respiratory, cardiac, and neuro illnesses. It has the capacity to care for ventilated patients. The team is teamwork-oriented with support staff including nursing assistants, nurse technicians, and clinical assistants. 4CN receives patients directly from the MICU and includes 24-hour NP coverage for mentoring and clinical support.

4CN is a sister unit to 3CN/5CN, offering a dynamic patient care experience. 3CN specializes in general surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients, and can monitor arterial lines. 5CN focuses on cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, receiving patients directly from the ICU and monitoring patients on anti-arrhythmics. It emphasizes discharge planning and readiness.

Scope of work

The RN uses the nursing process to provide professional, patient-family centered care, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge. The RN collaborates with patients and families, develops teaching strategies, documents education, and provides quality care under the Nurse Leader's guidance, following Corewell Health policies.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's in Nursing required within 5 years
  • Graduates from non-accredited schools need 1 year of acute care or 2 years in a licensed healthcare role, and must pass NCLEX
  • MI RN license required
  • AHA or ARC BLS required
  • AHA ACLS required within 6 months
  • Specialty certification recommended within 2 years
