Zekelman Industries is seeking a Cut Off Operator - Night Shift capable of learning multiple task job stations. Reporting to the Production/Warehouse Manager, the Cut Off Operator ensures production goals are met with a focus on uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Works safely following HazCom and workplace safety practices set forth by Atlas Tube policy and OSHA.
  • Receives verbal and/or written instructions from team leader or mill manager.
  • Works from rolling schedules to ensure proper size, gauge, and length material is processed.
  • Performs quality checks on size, wall, length, and flash removal to ensure products meet specification and provides feedback to mill operators.
  • Performs crush tests of welds to confirm weld integrity.
  • Checks and adjusts turkshead rolls as required to maintain straightness tolerances.
  • Assists in mill changeovers and sets up traveling cutoff saw for each size.
  • Changes saw blades and dies; adjusts guide rolls as needed.
  • Sets up and checks Canada Stamp; replaces as required and operates Hilti gun as needed.
  • Sets up and operates Willet marking system.
  • Conducts pull tests for each new heat.
  • Completes all operating and quality reports accurately.
  • Cleans slugs from saw house, under exit conveyor, and in handling area.
  • Assists maintenance personnel in making equipment repairs.
  • Supports other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime.
  • Reports any irregularities or malfunctions to managers and/or maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Maintains regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree and at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Completion of military service is considered equivalent to a 2-year degree.
  • Tube mill manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; basic computer skills; able to read measuring devices and perform basic math.
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Visual acuity to read and record numerical data accurately.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, dependability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

Physical Abilities:

  • Regularly stands, walks, uses hands, handles or feels, and reaches with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull; can lift up to 50 lbs.
