As a Critical Environment Technician (CET)- Night Shift in Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will help to maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters up and running. This includes basic monitoring and inspection, various types of maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, enforcing safety and security requirements, and developing methods of operating procedures (MOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine powering our cloud services. As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities
- Critical Environment Culture: Follows safety and security requirements, AHJ regulations, and Microsoft procedures; recognizes safe vs. unsafe working conditions; escalates when necessary; participates in required meetings and trainings; assesses resources and equipment to support EHS objectives.
- Equipment and Systems Maintenance: Escorts third-party contractors on site, coordinates safe work, ensures documentation and approvals, reviews work orders, performs troubleshooting, develops MOPs/SOPs/DMOPs, and coaches less experienced technicians.
- Maintenance activities: Performs planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs; follows MOPs/SOPs/DMOPs; documents tasks; escalates as needed; uses MSOW/THA for risk considerations.
- Equipment and Systems Operations: Responds to abnormal conditions using EOPs, assists in incident timelines and root-cause analyses, monitors site status, and helps develop related procedures; uses CMMS to track assets and maintains records; performs inspections and escalations as required.
- Monitoring and inspections: Conducts physical inspections of critical environment equipment (HVAC, controls, mechanical systems), monitors alarms, and escalates per policy; uses telemetry and control systems to assess site status.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional climbing of ladders, frequent stairs/ramps, prolonged standing; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs (22.5 kg); occasional pushing/pulling 50-75 lbs with assistance; normal vision and color vision required for electrical work.
Working Conditions
- Extended periods in environments with elevated noise, heat, and light due to equipment and ventilation systems.

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; ability to work 12-hour shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; travel up to 25% as needed.
- Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check every two years.
- Preferred Qualifications: 1+ year of mission-critical services work or equivalent experience; or relevant education with 2+ years experience; or 3+ years experience with equivalent background.
Salary information varies by location. For example, ATR-B and ATR-C ranges are provided by location and may differ in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
