Overview

Bechtel is partnering with NextDecade to support Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) in Brownsville, Texas. RGLNG is a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal with a multi-train facility. Bechtel is delivering project planning, construction, and startup support for this venture.

Job Summary

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, inspection and testing, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. You will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities

  • On a medium sized job, perform the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing multiple disciplines, or serve as Deputy Project Field Engineer coordinating all activities related to the operation of an assigned area.
  • Proactively engage with your team’s development through CPM, competency development/assessment and feedback.
  • Supervise a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific discipline.
  • Coordinate with design on constructability issues.
  • Material management: direct the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, substitutions, services, and equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.
  • Uphold a zero accident philosophy and ensure safety requirements are followed by craft personnel; ensure tools and equipment are in safe condition.
  • Coordinate between construction and startup to ensure system walkdowns are performed and interface with the startup specialist as required.
  • Review and approve inspection test plans; coordinate reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Technical knowledge of a specialized engineering discipline, cost, scheduling and/or contracts administration related to constructing heavy industrial or commercial complexes.
  • Experience as a construction engineer, engineer or assistant superintendent leading to the described technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Knowledge of Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to responsibility area.
  • Familiar with Bechtel’s Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Experience supervising subcontractors and understanding Bechtel’s Zero Accidents safety program.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases per Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP).
  • Knowledge of subcontract usage and contractor/subcontractor responsibilities in subcontract documents.

Additional Information

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as required, which may include night shifts or split shifts. The role requires physical ability to conduct field inspections, including walking on construction sites, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms and in confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must be able to enter/exit the project site and use appropriate PPE for assigned tasks.
