Overview

Job Summary Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property including cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, and more. Services include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, removing debris, trash, and transporting clean and dirty linen and towels. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment in connection with performing duties.

Details This role may involve working at multiple Navy lodging locations as needed and requires adherence to hospitality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas; operates cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, waxer, polisher); empties wastebaskets; dusts, waxes, and polishes room furniture; washes walls, partitions, air vents; disinfects and deodorizes toilet bowls and lavatories; washes and replaces window treatments; cleans ceiling fixtures; changes light bulbs; moves furniture to clean under/behind; uses step stools or ladders as needed; cleans bathroom and kitchen areas; washes and disinfects dishes, utensils, and cookware.
• Ensures luggage racks function properly; checks hangers and closet contents; verifies TVs, alarms, and phones are clean and programmed correctly.
• Places and maintains amenities in rooms; replaces bed linens; inspects mattresses; assists with bed repositioning upon checkout; greets guests and maintains excellent guest relations; ensures privacy and security of guests at all times.
• Cleans corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios, and balconies; shampoos rugs/carpets; polishes rails; performs scheduled carpet cleaning with appropriate equipment.
• Performs deep cleaning as required by program standards (e.g., during check-out, in pet-friendly rooms, or rooms with service animals) including defrosting refrigerators, cleaning windows, and carpet treatments.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of storage rooms; communicates status of cleaned spaces to supervisor; uses property management system as required.
• Accomplishes minor repairs and maintenance of equipment; reports major repairs or replacements to supervisor.
• Cleans and inspects exterior spaces (parking lots, outside passageways); may load/unload trucks or assist with receiving, storage, and delivery of supplies; uses basic hand tools as needed.
• Responsible for pass keys and returns them at end of shift; reports any unusual circumstances to supervisor (e.g., no luggage, vacancies, extra guests, unauthorized pets).
• Reports lost and found items to supervisor with room/area details.
• May assist with breakfast service setup, cleanup, and replenishment; ensures area is returned to original state; may require food handling certifications as applicable.
• Completes required safety and security training; applies blood-borne pathogen safety measures; follows NHG protocols during daily service activity.
• Performs laundry operations at the facility; may be required to travel to other lodging facilities with a valid state driver’s license; may require NHG housekeeping certification within 6 months and other certifications as applicable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• No experience required; High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Physical requirements: moderate physical effort; ability to move furniture and use hand or lightweight powered cleaning equipment.
