Responsibilities
The Maintenance Technician is a multi-skilled technician with primary responsibilities of maintaining site equipment (manufacturing and facilities) to eliminate unplanned stoppages and increase asset availability. The Maintenance Technician performs all preventive maintenance as scheduled; troubleshoots and repairs abnormalities identified while promoting and supporting quality and continuous improvement of our processes and safety in the workplace.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and repair site (manufacturing and facilities) equipment problems, failures, and unsafe conditions.
- Complete preventive, predictive, corrective, proactive activities on site (manufacturing and facilities) equipment adhering to the weekly maintenance plan while ensuring that safety procedures are followed and addressing any dangerous or unsafe conditions.
- Perform maintenance activities with attention to detail to ensure all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner while ensuring potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked.
- Conduct initial problem-solving analysis (IBSPT) and propose ideas to reduce unplanned downtime and increase site equipment reliability.
- Analyse equipment history and identify areas of improvement to eliminate repetitive failures.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment by complying with procedures, policies, and regulations.
- Maintain accurate technical reports and keep up-to-date records of all maintenance activities in CMMS (generate notifications, complete work orders assigned, and capture required data – work hours, etc.).
- Support Maintenance planner in the Planning and Scheduling process (including parts and services procurement).
- Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and documentation (procedures, job plans, PMs, etc.).
- Support MRO to maintain an optimum inventory of spare parts.
- Support production personnel in basic equipment maintenance procedures.
- Support shift DDS meetings including reporting maintenance performance/results within the shift.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives (BOS) to improve efficiencies, reduce waste or learn new skills.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Note: To perform any maintenance activity in electrical assets, personnel must be qualified by designated personnel as per the Electrical Safety Policy.
Skills and qualifications
- At least 5-7 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with packaging/high-speed production (e.g., bottling, consumer products) and be able to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain in some of the following areas:
- PLC / HMI interpretation and programming (e.g., ladder logic, computer control systems - switches, relays, etc). Allen Bradley / SLC family using RS Logix 500 software / Panel View (Preferred)
- Electrical and Electronics systems (e.g., AC/DC motors, frequency drive, level probes, flow meters, drives/VFDs, wiring, etc.)
- Mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, gear boxes, chains, sprockets, motors, seals, bearings, valves, etc.)
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems (high pressure cylinders, pumps, valves, solenoids, cylinders, etc.)
- Facilities Maintenance (e.g., boilers, generators, HVAC, electrical installations, etc.)
- Machine Shop / Fabrication (e.g., CNC, Welding, etc.)
- Machine / Line Control and Coding Devices (e.g., video jets, laser printers, inspectors, etc.)
- Breakdowns / Failure Analysis (problem solving to identify root cause)
- Able to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics (e.g., electrical blueprints with switches, starters, maps, relays, mechanical drawings for hydraulics and pneumatics).
- Mechanical, Electrical Tools and Diagnostics Instruments
- Predictive and Proactive Technology (e.g., laser alignment, vibration, thermography, ultrasound, etc.)
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CMMS (SAP PM preferred).
- Experience working in team-based environments (preferred).
- Experience with manufacturing equipment installation and start-up.
- Experience of electrical Safety (NFPA70E), ISO 9000, GMP and HACCP (preferred)
- High School or Equivalent vocational/specialized certification
