We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as an Operations Automation Technician (3rd Shift) in Morton, IL.

In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. PSLD is responsible for the worldwide distribution of Cat aftermarket parts, integrated logistics, and global service to develop and support our global dealer network and customers.
Job Summary
- This Operations Automation Technician (3rd Shift) role will be responsible for ensuring the operation, upgrade/update, installation and maintenance of automation systems, controls and related equipment.
- You will also be involved in projects related to the design/redesign of facility automation with collaboration across multiple departments.
Additional Info
- This role is located in Morton, IL and does not offer relocation
- This role is 3rd Shift: Sunday-Thursday 11pm-7am
- This role is 100% on-site with no opportunities for hybrid or remote schedules
- This role requires up to 10% domestic travel
- There may be times where this role is on-call for off-hours support
What You Will Do
- Troubleshooting issues and resolving problems in the most efficient and cost-effective way
- PLC communications (network communications)
- Timing for diverts (manipulation of DFBs)
- Other: eg. (CanOpen, ASI network, Limit switches)
- Scanner read rates
- AWCS interface (Dematic log files)
- Crane troubleshooting (ASM communication to crane)
- Mini-shuttle crane shutdown/restart procedures
- AS/RS database alignment (location pick-up drop off adjustments)
- Support of maintenance personnel in continued operation of automated conveyor and cranes
- PLC program documentation (in program/labels/tags)
- Program replication (cranes)
- HMI updates
- Cabinet 5S
- Drawing with locations
- Monthly checklist
What You Have (Required Skills)
- Engineering/Technology degree OR previous experience in facility controls engineering or related discipline
- Technical Troubleshooting: Automation Programming & Troubleshooting - PLC control logic.
- Industrial Automation/Automatic Control: Knowledge of various industrial automatic control systems, processes and methodologies in a manufacturing environment;
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems;
- Experience with Industrial Communications (ModbusTCP, TCP, OPC, Sockets, ASCII, etc.)
- Excellent customer service skills as you will be interacting with our operations team
What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Skills)
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Automation Programming - Modicon {Proworx32 (984) and Unity}, RS Logix, Studio 5000
- Automation Programming - Ladder, Structured Text, Function Block
- Knowledge of OPC (Open Platform Communications) servers (Kepware preferred)
- Experience with Archestra/Wonderware
- Automation Installation – Hardware Troubleshooting/Replacement
- Working knowledge of Fanuc robots
- Familiarity with conveyor and AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems) crane interactions with a Warehouse Management System
- Industrial Networking - Familiar with Host / PLC interaction
- Work experience and expertise in electrical and/or computer applications
- Ability to work with a diverse group of employees and customers
- Good analytical skills and the ability to quickly and accurately identify problems
- Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills

Summary Pay Range
$71,040.00 - $106,440.00
