About The Position
Position is primarily responsible for working under the direction of the Fitness Manager in developing and implementing a comprehensive physical fitness program, overseeing the fitness center, conducting exercise classes, performing physical assessments, monitoring individual exercise programs, and conducting personal training. These activities involve older adults who have a wide range of physical and cognitive capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Conducts exercise classes regularly according to departmental guidelines; monitors participant exercise techniques for safety.
- Solicits and encourages resident participation in fitness programs by visiting with new residents, writing articles of interest for newsletter, and demonstrating exercise techniques to enhance understanding.
- Contributes to the oversight of fitness center equipment.
- Responsible for organizing, publicizing, and implementing the participation of GHBC residents in the NOVA Sr. Olympics.
- Maintains an inventory of equipment and offers recommendations for updates to equipment as needed.
- Performs individual physical assessments of residents to develop and implement an exercise program according to abilities and needs.
- Monitors individual exercise programs of residents for progress and makes modifications as needed; ensures physician permission forms are up-to-date and on file.
- Designs and implements exercise and/or wellness programs according to resident interest, safety, and individual health benefit.
- Develops and submits budget for overall fitness program; monitors expenditures for compliance with budgetary guidelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred but not required (exercise science) or equivalent. Personal training certification such as ACSM, ACE required. Additional certifications in specialized areas focused on fitness for older adults/water aerobics, etc.
- Must be CPR certified.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in senior physical fitness, therapy, anatomy, or related field preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must have computer skills in basic word processing.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others.
