Job Position: Material Handler
Location: West Chicago, IL 60185
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Pay Range: $19-$24
Job Summary
Drives a forklift or clamp truck to move raw and packaging materials and finished products from the warehouse to the production floor. The role operates on a 12-hour schedule, split between forklift operation and palletizing finished goods.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a sufficient supply of bulk product, packaging materials, and other raw materials on the production floor to ensure continuous production flow (including foam, straw, lid, and future materials).
- Move finished products from the production area in a timely and safe manner.
- Place and rotate finished goods, ensuring correct storage according to stack heights, aisle widths, and product consolidation per SOPs.
- Complete all required paperwork, reports, and loading documents.
- Repackage damaged product as needed.
- Manage scrap bales and record weights before moving bales to designated areas.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Remove debris and manage trash as part of housekeeping duties.
- Perform preventive audits on forklifts using checklists.
- Follow GMP and sanitation guidelines and maintain personal hygiene.
- Perform other duties as assigned by team lead, supervisor, or department manager.
Physical Demands
- Work a 12+ hour shift, including sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, and handling objects; operate a moving forklift.
- Manual handling of objects up to 30 pounds; carrying up to 20 pounds for distances up to 100 yards.
Working Conditions
- Exposed to extreme heat; indoor manufacturing/warehouse environment not air-conditioned.
- Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Required PPE: hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses with side guards.
- Work a 12+ hour shift with ability to work weekdays, weekends, and overtime.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience: Forklift operation certification required; at least 1 year in a warehouse/manufacturing environment
Skills: Basic computer skills; ability to read, write, and speak English
