Alta Equipment Group is hiring: Forklift Field Service Technician in Livonia

Overview

Join the largest equipment dealer in North America. We are seeking a Technician/Mechanic with auto, diesel, agricultural, material handling, lift truck, or heavy equipment repair experience to join our team.

Position

Forklift Field Service Technician – Livonia, MI. This is a full-time, first shift position (Monday–Friday) with hourly pay (no flat rate!). The role includes a company service van and fuel card; technicians may drive the van home.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment
• Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment
• Complete repairs in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
• Provide exceptional customer service
• Work and manage workloads independently
• Proper completion and submission of all required paperwork
• Field Technicians are responsible for company vehicle and on-board parts inventory
• Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Maintain consistent, regular, and reliable attendance

Alta provides in-house paid training to enhance diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and supports career growth. Company uniforms are provided.

Qualifications

• Two years of forklift repair experience is highly desired, including any MOS/NEC codes: 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M
• Previous field experience is highly preferable
• Strong working knowledge of electric and liquid propane units
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Possess own tools
• Clean driving record and valid driver's license to drive company vehicle
• Familiarity with computer programs: HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software, and Yale/Hyster contact management system
• Language Skills - Intermediate: ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
• Mathematical Skills - Basic: able to perform arithmetic with dollars, units of measurement, and basic calculations
• Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: able to apply common sense and solve problems in standardized situations

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; frequently talk or hear; occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Vision: No special vision requirements
• Lift and/or Move: Regularly lift up to 10 pounds; frequently 11–25 pounds; occasionally 26–100+ pounds
• Work Environment: Regularly work near moving mechanical parts; exposure to fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; may work in wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, risk of electrical shock, vibration
