Job Summary

The Forklift Mechanic will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and emergency repair of all forklifts. In addition, the Forklift Technician will assist other Maintenance Mechanics with the repairs of other equipment, such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
• Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane powered.
• Test forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
• Schedule and perform routine maintenance for forklift trucks. Ensure batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged.
• Interpret manufacturer\'s technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
• Troubleshoot forklift problems including brake, electrical and hydraulic systems; detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.
• Diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
• Work with brake systems and tire/wheel changes.
• Work on LP, gas, and diesel systems as needed.
• Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs.
• Reassemble forklifts and make necessary adjustments for safe operation.
• Perform safety inspections of forklifts prior to release to the work floor.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area; ensure safety requirements are met.
• Complete legible service documents and logs for preventative maintenance tasks.
• Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology.
• Familiar with OSHA regulations regarding the operation of a forklift and other equipment; observe proper operating procedures and safety practices.
• Other duties as assigned by Whirlwind Steel Buildings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two or more years of experience in a related field, including maintenance of various lift trucks such as Hyster, Kalmar and Yale with lift ratings up to 16,000 lbs. and 60,000 lbs.
• Manufacturing, automotive, military, or recent trade school graduates with applied skills.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and night shift if necessary.
• Able to function well as a team member; have analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to function with little supervision; reliable, responsible, and dependable.
• Good communication skills; complete test and maintenance reports.
• Have working knowledge of OSHA regulations and ability to work safely following company rules and procedures.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Work performed in a shop environment.
• Exposed to elements but not to a degree that is disagreeable.
• Physical effort includes frequent moving of up to 50 lbs materials.
• Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach.
• Safety glasses required; ear protection recommended and required in some areas.
• Ability to stand up to 10 hours a day (with a lunch break) and up to 6 days a week.
• Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
• Steel-toe boots required in manufacturing facility.

Shift and Employment Details

• Night Shift Schedule: Monday through Friday; weekends as needed.
• 10 hour shifts, but not limited to it.
• Employment type: Full-time
