Shift/Schedule: 36 hours per week | 12-hour Night Shifts (12N) | No block scheduling

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides patient-centered care that protects, promotes, and optimizes health while preventing illness and alleviating suffering. The RN is accountable for compliance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and UHS policies. This role supports a healing environment for patients and families within the Med/Surg Telemetry unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
• Serve as the primary and/or accountable nurse as designated by unit assignment.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
• Safely administer medications per UHS policies.
• Ensure effective utilization of resources, including staffing, time, and supplies.
• Adhere to nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
• Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, unit council activities, and improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development, continuing education, and mandatory training.
• Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practices into patient care.
• Support onboarding and learning for new employees and students.
• Uphold UHS values and perform other duties as required.
  
  

Required Skills & Experience

• 6 months 3 years of RN experience.
• 0 3 years of management experience.
• 5+ years of direct Med/Surg experience (preferred for this role).
• Strong skills in:

• Quality, safety, and risk management
• Reliability & sound judgment
  

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
• Epic EMR experience preferred.
  
  

Education Requirements

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  
  

Licensure & Certifications

• Required:
• Current NYS RN License
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross)
• Unit-specific compliance as per matrix
• Preferred:
• Professional certification in a related specialty
• ACLS, PALS, TNCC (as required by home unit)

• Common Diagnoses: Pneumonia, COPD, CHF, AKI, Osteomyelitis
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 36 hours/week
