Overview

Position: Nurse Practitioner - Hospice/Palliative Care. Location: Reno, NV. Part Time - Eligible For Benefits. Biweekly Hours: 40.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the provision of care for patients enrolled in hospice, outpatient palliative care, and/or inpatient palliative care.
  • Demonstrate independence and clinical expertise in the management of patients with serious and terminal illnesses using advanced clinical skills, diagnostic reasoning, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend call coverage for all service lines on a rotating basis.
  • Care plan oversight, ongoing eligibility evaluation, pain and symptom management.
  • Collaborate with acute partners and participate in designated Renown committees, as applicable.

Nature and Scope

Nurse practitioners are primary health care providers who practice in ambulatory, acute, emergency room, critical care and long-term care settings. They diagnose and manage acute, episodic, and chronic illnesses, emphasize health promotion and disease prevention, and teach and counsel individuals, families, and groups. The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for applicable age groups, and perform acts within the scope of practice as defined by state regulations and authorized protocols.

The following acts may be performed by the nurse practitioner if properly prepared and within the standard of medical practice for the specialty and as outlined in protocols: including history taking, examinations, diagnostic procedures, management of health problems, medication prescribing, evaluation of treatment outcomes, patient and family education, and referral to appropriate providers. Other acts may be performed if certified, taught, and within the scope of practice.

  • Establish positive working relations with Provider Staff; work efficiently in a multi-physician/provider office setting.
  • Collaborate as part of a team toward clinic goals; maintain accurate, confidential records.
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and healthcare outcome evaluations.
  • Direct nursing and/or medical assistant duties consistent with clinic protocols.
  • Uphold high quality of care with ethical practice and ongoing professional development.
  • Advocate for patients; fulfill roles as provider, mentor, educator, researcher, manager, and consultant as applicable.
  • Explain the nurse practitioner role to patients and professionals; work autonomously in long-term and acute care facilities as applicable.
  • Comply with NRS 632 and Nevada State Board of Nursing regulations; collaborating physician remains responsible for NP actions.
  • Maintain knowledge of core educational programs and attend departmental and Renown Health meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s prepared registered nurse (RN).
  • Experience: Two years minimum experience as an RN; six months clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Licenses: Valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with the State of Nevada, DEA registration and Controlled Substance License to Prescribe.
  • Certifications: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP) or Emergency NP (ENP) certification by AANPCB required at time of hire. BLS or ACLS required; AHA preferred or acceptable alternatives listed (e.g., Red Cross Training Services, ACLS Certification Institute).
  • Computer/Typing: Proficiency in computer skills to complete online learning, access policies, and benefits enrollment; credentialing as applicable.

This position does provide patient care.
