Overview

Truck Driver - Seasonal role at Five Star Cooperative. Incumbent will safely and accurately drive a semi tractor-trailer combination or a truck to transport goods and materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form. Will be required to load and unload truck and assist others with loading truck at farmers’ sites or other locations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive trucks with capacities greater than 13 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to pickup and transport/deliver products, grain, feed, ingredients, petroleum, or other materials to specified locations.
  • Load and unload trucks; assist others with loading and unloading; operate any related loading equipment as necessary.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions; follow signals from loading crews; verify vehicle position and equipment is properly positioned.
  • Couple/uncouple trailers; connect/disconnect air and electrical lines; operate fifth-wheel locks.
  • Follow safety procedures when transporting dangerous goods.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service status in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Obtain and check load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy; secure cargo for transport.
  • Read documentation to determine assignment details and routes; use truck cab computers, CB radios, and phones to exchange information with locations, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage; monitor trailer conditions after unloading.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with policies; maintain quality control above the required standards.
  • Uphold a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and reflects well on Five Star Cooperative.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; fluent reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Experience: Strong written and verbal communication skills; computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel); good customer service skills; agronomy background a plus.
  • License/Certification: Valid Class A, B, or Temp CDL; Valid DOT physical card; or ability to obtain.
  • Basic Skills: Speaking, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Listening, Monitoring, Judgment and Decision Making, Time Management.

Maintenance & Safety

  • Observe OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Maintain compliance data and monthly preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Operate trucks and equipment safely; no OSHA/state/federal citations or customer complaints concerning driving.
  • Maintain clean and neat facilities.

Service And Skills

  • Excellent customer service; neat and approachable demeanor.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally; notify supervisor as needed.
  • Excellent telephone skills; respond promptly and courteously.

Work Conditions and Environment
