Location: Various WHA Sites – Chicago, IL (work locations will vary depending on need across multiple WHA properties)
Schedule: Monday through Friday; shifts available between 5:00 AM and 9:00 PM CST
Compensation: $25 – $28 per hour
Position Summary
Westside Health Authority (WHA) is currently seeking dependable and motivated Maintenance Workers with construction experience to support a range of facilities across WHA-owned and managed properties. This 1099 contractor role is ideal for individuals with hands-on experience in building trades, light construction, and facility repairs. Maintenance Workers are expected to keep buildings, grounds, and equipment in top condition to ensure a safe and functional environment for WHA staff, tenants, and community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance and construction-related tasks, including:
- Basic and intermediate carpentry (e.g., framing, drywall, door/window repair and installation)
- Electrical troubleshooting (e.g., replacing outlets, switches, lighting fixtures)
- Painting, patching, and finishing work
- Light demolition and remodeling support
- Conduct inspections and assessments to identify structural or safety issues.
- Assist with building renovations, small-scale construction projects, and space conversions.
- Maintain exterior grounds, including snow removal, lawn care, and debris removal.
- Assist with furniture moves, event setup, and other site-related tasks as assigned.
- Collaborate with WHA staff and supervisors to prioritize daily work orders.
- Maintain detailed records of hours worked, repairs made, and materials used.
- Follow OSHA safety standards and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Reliable transportation to travel between sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Must be able to work independently and problem-solve on the job.
- Willingness to undergo and pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in general construction, maintenance, or building trades.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in HVAC, electrical, carpentry, or plumbing.
- Experience reading blueprints, work orders, or building plans.
- Familiarity with working in nonprofit, residential, or community facility settings.
Additional Information
- This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and do not receive employee benefits.
- Assignments and work locations vary based on organizational needs.
- Two shifts available Monday through Friday between 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM CST.
