SALARY: $18.00 to $22.00 per Hour

SCHEDULE: Flexible 12 Months

Overview

The School Security Guard will be assigned to single or multiple posts during their shift to enforce school rules and security protocol; ensure the security of the students, staff, parents, and visitors; and prevent damage to the school facilities. The Guard will establish a rapport with students, staff, and visitors to provide a safe, secure, and conducive atmosphere for the proper functioning of the school. The Guard will assist students, parents, staff, and visitors by resolving problems or referring them to the appropriate person. Work requires independent judgment and is performed under the supervision of the Security Guard supervisor with annual evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the main lobbies and entrances and other areas of the school building, in person and/or via CCTV system
• Control access to building entrances and exits
• Welcome and greet students, staff, and visitors with courtesy, professionalism, and respect
• Communicate school policies and enforcement procedures to ensure understanding and awareness of consequences
• Confront unauthorized persons, question or reroute them as appropriate, issue verbal trespass warnings, and call for assistance as needed
• Report inappropriate activities or unauthorized persons on or around the school
• Escort students as required to ensure they are at appropriate locations
• Resolve student conflicts safely and professionally, making referrals regarding student misconduct as appropriate
• Assist other personnel to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective work and learning environment
• Offer observations that will improve and safeguard the schools
• Maintain excellent time and attendance

Qualifications

• A current New York State security guard license is required
• Valid F07 - Certificate of Fitness for Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor (within the first 90 days of employment)
• Minimum of two years of security experience in a school setting or substantial contact with youth in a recreational setting
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and complaints
• Courtesy, professionalism, and respect when dealing with others
• Ability to react well under pressure, handle multiple demands, and work with frequent interruptions
• Human relations skills to resolve confrontation and convey a positive image of the school
• Ability to observe accurately and recall faces, names, descriptive characteristics, and facts of incidents and places
• Ability to administer first aid in emergencies (training will be provided)
• Sensitivity to cultural differences among individuals and groups
• Excellent time and attendance required
