Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular employee.

Essential Functions

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Report to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival and exiting the school building.

Review with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the day.

Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and/or classroom to which he/she is assigned.

Conduct classes, lead instruction and teach the lesson outlined and described in the lesson plans as prepared by the absent teacher if substitute teaching.

Consult with the building principal [department head, team leader] before initiating any teaching or other procedure not specified in the lesson plans.

Responsible for maintaining effective order and control at all times.

Report in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day.

Follow all policies, rules, and procedures that apply to regular employees and dictates good teaching practice.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Cognitive/Mental Demands

Concentration (detailed work and attention to task), ability to read, comprehend and communicate effectively in English in order to appropriately conduct classes and lead instruction as necessary, both verbally and written. Materials used: lesson plans, student information, textbooks, policy, procedure, and data. Analysis and differentiation of information, ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple tasks, compiling and collating, simple mathematical computations, and maintain emotional control under stress.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

On a daily basis as called. Salary is to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION

Evaluation of job performance is a continuous process designed to improve the quality of work performed.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.

The Superintendent or designee shall have authority to remove a substitute's name from the Approved Substitute List for "good cause."

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certification

Substitute Teacher - High School Diploma/GED, Associates Degree, Advanced Degree or Certified Teacher from any State.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English

Non-certified/bachelors degree or higher substitute teacher- $100 per day.

Certified teacher (any state) substitute teacher - $110 per day.
