The Human Resources Generalist - Benefits will support the organization by managing all benefit and leave of absence programs through administration, education and innovation in accordance with all laws, regulations and policies while maintaining strict confidentiality of all human resources documentation and protected information. Enhance the value and accessibility of employee benefits through engaging benefit education campaigns and championing forward-thinking initiatives that support employee well-being and engagement. Serve as a subject matter expert in our HRIS database and provide leadership in system optimization, reporting and troubleshooting.

Requirements
- Administer and manage the organization’s benefit plans and programs to ensure appropriate policies, summary plan descriptions and other required documentation is maintained and communicated to meet all legal requirements
- Coordinate benefit programs to ensure all eligible employees are enrolled in their selected coverage, cancellations are processed, and COBRA notification requirements are met within the required timeframes
- Serve as primary point of contact for broker, vendors and employees for day-to-day coordination of all benefit programs and problem resolution, elevating escalated issues to Director or Vice President when applicable
- Serve as a subject matter expert and compassionate, trusted resource for employees navigating benefit and leave programs while ensuring compliance
- Manage HRIS system with benefit integration files, plan administration and enrollments and system testing, to include troubleshooting and resolving issues with vendor connections and carriers
- Plan and execute inclusive and engaging annual open enrollment campaigns and ongoing benefit education campaigns
- Gather employee data to reconcile all benefits billing each month to ensure appropriate payment is calculated and generate payment requests for required signature within the required timeframe
- Generate and prepare reports for benefit programs including annual PCORI filing, CMS reporting and FSA Dependent Care discrimination testing and others as needed
- Respond to Marketplace inquiries and proof of benefit eligibility and/or coverage requests
- Design and deliver training that helps employees maximize their benefits and understand total rewards
- Collaborate cross-functionally to develop wellness initiatives, financial literacy programs and other value-add offerings
- Assess employee feedback and trends to evolve benefit communication and services, and provide recommendations to Director and Vice President
- Coordinate enrollment of new employees in the 403(b) retirement savings plan, vendor notification of employee separations and manage the death claim notification process ensuring all required documentation is submitted
- Coordinate retirement parties and assist retiring employees with obtaining information from appropriate vendors; maintain retiree listing and serve as lead for planning retiree celebrations, in coordination with Human Resources Associate.
- Manage Family and Medical Leave Act, short-term disability and long-term disability leave of absence programs, including timekeeping entries in accordance with all required laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Serve as point of contact for unpaid leave of absence requests gathering information and documentation, where required, for approval by Vice President Workforce Services.
- Serve as primary contact and coordinate ADA accommodations in collaboration with employees and leadership, for approval by Director Human Resources
- Coordinate the WEAVE – Emergency Assistance program for employees by educating, gathering required application and documentation for requests, and providing completed information to the Director Human Resources for approval
- Act as HRIS lead/super user for system optimization, reporting and troubleshooting, including data integrity and analytics. Develop and execute training for end users in system functionality and best practices.
- Serve as a facilitator at New Employee Orientation and ensure a designated back-up is available in the event of an absence or scheduling conflict
- Use and adapt to new technologies, including tools, equipment, methods of application, computerized systems and processes, etc., to impact productivity of department and services; keep job-required technical skills up to date.
- Present and communicate at all times in a professional and effective manner, modeling desired behaviors expected by employees of the organization
- Serve as a backup for the other Generalist including workers’ compensation, unemployment, employee satisfaction programs and employee relations; provide project assistance, including ad hoc recruiting support as directed
- Experience working with an integrated HRIS and payroll system, including data entry, reporting and system maintenance
- Experience in employee relations, conducting investigations and knowledge of correlating employment law
- Knowledge of benefits administration, including all requirements of the Family and Medical Leave Act
- Understanding of the employer responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA)
- Bachelor’s Degree or combination of education and experience to fulfill requirements of position
- Two years directly related work experience
- Knowledge of human resources practices, employment laws and regulations
- Ability to embrace and show compassion through patience with an understanding of other people in different situations
