Responsibilities
- Employee records administration, including electronic files, databases, and paperwork for employees and changes; keep data current and organized.
- Review I-9 forms, new hire paperwork, and onboarding documentation for accuracy; coordinate with regional offices to ensure timely receipt of necessary documents.
- Communicate with employees to share information or assist with changes in their employee data.
- Conduct employee relations activities, advise managers and employees on job expectations and company culture; coordinate with Training Specialists to identify onboarding or training needs.
- Act as liaison between management and workforce; assist in delivering feedback or warnings as needed and support recognition programs.
- Track internal promotions, discuss performance with employees and management to support success.
- Monitor turnover and collaborate with regional teams to improve retention.
- Clarify policy or program expectations, advise management on regulatory or legal requirements.
- Assist regional offices and Training/Development teams to include new hires in company culture and MEI Values.
- Respond to unemployment claims as appropriate; assist in developing or maintaining company documents and forms (e.g., job descriptions, location-specific documents).
- Assist with grievance investigations; escalate issues when needed; provide guidance to staff at all levels.
- Maintain frequent and effective communication with employees and regional offices via email, virtual meetings, calls, and messages.
- Stay informed about MEI policies, PTO programs, and changes affecting employees.
- Perform regular and remote work during scheduled times; assist in other duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two or more years of HR experience in a remote setting.
- Associates degree (or higher) in business administration, employee relations, human resources, or related field; HR certification a plus.
- Experience with employee grievances and internal investigations preferred (minimum two years).
- Proficient with Windows, MS Office (including PowerPoint), Adobe PDF; familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRMS.
- Knowledge of national and state employment laws; understanding of discrimination/harassment regulations; state/local laws helpful.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; strong listening, reasoning, and comprehension.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to problem-solve with minimal supervision.
- Strong time-management and ability to work productively in a team environment; ability to build relationships across diverse backgrounds.
- English proficiency; bilingual English/Spanish desired but not required. Knowledge of clerical procedures and data management.
- Professional demeanor suitable for a business environment.
Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
The HR Generalist position is remote or hybrid; most work occurs in a home office setting. Frequent computer usage; typical hours are 8 hours/day, Monday–Friday, with schedule to accommodate U.S. time zones. Some domestic travel may be required, including overnight stays.
