Overview
At the start of each shift the Barista will be responsible for counting and setting up their cash register drawer following the DCH Cash Handling Policy. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Starbuck's coffee kiosk. The Barista will prepare all Starbuck's beverages to order as per customer preferences following precise Starbuck formulas as printed in the Starbucks's manual. The Barista will also be responsible for stocking, maintaining, and rotating all items sold in the kiosk (drinks, sandwiches, desserts, cups, straws, merchandise, etc.). Accurately enters all sales into the POS system using approved tender. A printed receipt will be offered to each customer upon completion of the transaction. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean, sanitized, and organized workstation to meet Health Department, Ever Clean, and TJC standards. The Barista will track inventories, prepare order lists, and store delivered items. The role includes cash handling duties, including counting receipts and cash after each shift according to DCH Internal Audit policies. Other duties include restocking, serving food, cleaning/sanitizing equipment, and general cleaning of service and dining areas as needed.
Responsibilities
- Staffing and scheduling: currently a Monday – Friday position; subject to change based on hospital or department needs.
- Adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards to foster positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and customers.
- Assist manager/supervisor in counting monies at the start of each shift according to cash handling policies and sign off on drawer accuracy.
- Enter customer transactions into the CBORD (POS) system, collect payment, make change as needed, and provide receipts.
- Maintain cash and sales records securely and keep work area clean in dining/servery areas; assist with Northport Campus cafeteria duties as needed.
- Restock items to meet customer needs and assist during Starbucks open hours with POS entries to prevent lines (Northport Campus where applicable).
- Post and keep Starbucks signage current; ensure availability of supplies for new or seasonal beverages or promotions.
- Accurately count money at end of shift with a supervisor and complete logs per policy.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Must read, write, and count with English proficiency. Experience as a cashier is preferred; barista or coffee shop experience is a plus. Ability to count money, make change, follow recipes, and operate a multi-faceted POS system. Excellent communication and customer service skills. ServSafe certification with minimum score 75% preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
