Overview

The Chief Estimator is responsible for estimating the costs and resources required to complete a commercial construction project. This role plays a crucial part in the construction process, as accurate estimates are essential for budgeting, securing financing, and ensuring that a project is completed on time and within budget. Essential Functions

Project Evaluation: Review project specifications, blueprints, and drawings to understand the scope of work, materials needed, and project requirements. Cost Estimation: Calculate the costs associated with labor, materials, equipment, permits, subcontractors, and any other expenses necessary for the construction project. Bid Preparation: Prepare detailed and competitive bids for potential clients and submit on a timely basis. This may involve analyzing subcontractor quotes and negotiating prices. Hold pre-construction meetings (multiple, if needed) prior to finalizing bids. Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses throughout the construction process to ensure that the project stays on budget. Cost Analysis: Analyze historical data and industry trends to improve the accuracy of cost estimates and identify cost-saving opportunities. Value Engineering: Suggest cost-effective alternatives and materials that can help reduce project costs without compromising quality. Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential risks and contingencies that could impact the project's budget or timeline. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and cost reports for reference and auditing purposes. Communication: Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and clients to discuss estimates, budget constraints, and potential changes to the project scope. Education and Experience

BA/BS required, preferably in construction or engineering; master’s degree. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in estimating for commercial construction, including retail, offices, restaurants, etc. Company Description
