Your Role

AEXs Network Engineer plays a lead role in the design, planning, implementation and support of our deployed network infrastructure. A successful candidate will be responsibilities will be for various layers in the network including transmission, switching and routing, access networks (PON, Active Ethernet and more) as well as key POP infrastructure including Border Network Gateways, Firewalls and Border Routers.

To achieve this, the successful candidate must remain abreast of the latest networking, telecommunications equipment and standards developments.

The position is technically challenging and is very much hands-on working with equipment both in data centers and in the field.

Duties and responsibilities:

Serve as a network switching and routing subject matter expert Troubleshoot network infrastructure issues, including hardware and applications. Liaise with network service and equipment providers regarding maintenance and fault issues Plan and design prepare requirement design documents clearly specifying supplier requirements Acceptance of fiber and optical infrastructure for new projects and documentation provided by suppliers Plan and liaise regarding network upgrades, with respect to network management platform and elements Supporting development, management and configuration of network operational monitoring tools Set up, implement and review operational procedures used by NOC engineers and service desk staff Assist with escalations requested by the service desk, network engineers or management Provide technical support and guidance to network engineers and field operations staff Provide internal training for network engineers and other staff as required Keep abreast of developments within relevant standards bodies (e.g., IETF, ITU-T OIF and TMF) Prepare and maintain network element documentation as required

All you need is:

Bachelors degree in a related subject, or significant experience with networking technologies in practical use Relevant certifications in your field of expertise would be

preferred/advantageous:

JNCIP and/or CCNP JNCIE and/or CCIE NRS-3 or equivalent

Be familiar with working with vendor technologies such as: Juniper

QFX ACX MX

Mikrotik

CCR CRS

Nokia

SR7750 Platform SR-OS switch platform

Python/Perl experience would be an advantage, familiarity withnetwork automation frameworks(e.g., Ansible, Netmiko, REST APIs).. Demonstrable experience with a proven track record working in a networking engineering environment. Minimum 7-10 years experience as a network

engineer/networking

Advanced knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 technologies, such as spanning tree, ring protection, BGP, EVPN, MPLS, RSVP, LDP, PPPoE Servers, IPoE Servers, TR069, TR143, 802.1x, VPN technologies. NMS Network Monitoring Solutions; e.g. PRTG Experience in the operations and maintenance of metro/national long distance networks Working knowledge and experience in Wide Area Networks and network planning Working knowledge of layer 2 switches and layer 3 routing networks Technical proficiency balanced with a desire and aptitude to plan, coordinate and project manage Experience in Carrier Grade Ethernet, IP, and any scripting languages used in an operations environment (advantage) Experience in Access Technologies (xPON, Active Ethernet) Experience in working with optical transmission equipment (advantage) Use of optical test equipment and interpretation of its results (advantage) Travel requirements: Level of travel required will vary from time to time. The network service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The senior engineer must be prepared to be available from time to time outside normal office hours. Proficient in office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Google Earth Familiarity with virtualization technologies, like VMWARE, Proxmox, AWS, Azure, GCP mentoring and training, notingstakeholder communication, project management, and cross-team collaboration
