Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This team maintains the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS, ensuring data center MEP operates at 100% availability while delivering first-class customer service to teams within the data centers. Role : Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) The CE is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. Responsibilities include planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The CE serves as an expert technical resource, interacting with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a data center and to support AWS. This position will work with night teams to ensure training and drills are conducted and completed successfully, ensuring properly trained night staff. Responsibilities
Management and leadership of DCEO Engineering Team Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on critical facility operations and maintenance On-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors and vendors Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems Data Center capacity planning and reporting May assist in design and build-out of new facilities Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders to manage capacity and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency Deliver quality service and meet customer demands Asset and inventory management Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls – first level escalation point for Data Center facilities issues Primary on-call shift rotation; training and development of EOTs including night shift personnel Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience 3+ years of data center or mission-critical facilities experience Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical) Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of data center engineering experience Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree Experience leading a team Additional Information
