Researches, retrieves and analyzes complex criminal activity information and data from various sources within the criminal justice community. Identifies and projects crime trends, series and patterns, enters data as needed, produces relational associations and disseminates intelligence information to various internal and external law enforcement personnel using statistical and analytical techniques. Responsibilities include: Researches, retrieves and analyzes crime data. Maintains computerized crime information. Conducts manual and automated searches to retrieve crime information for the community and/or department personnel. Enters data in the Police Department's Records Management System and other databases to ensure comprehensive and accurate data is available for analysis. Analyzes more complex data to determine crime patterns by reviewing crime reports, area bulletins, teletypes and other data from a variety of sources. Conducts training of Police Department personnel and/or volunteers in the use of automated systems. Gathers and updates information of criminal suspect activity and other periodic crime data for dissemination to the department and the community. Develops and maintains crime analysis web content for the departmental internet and intranet sites. Verifies and validates departmental databases related to criminal analyses. Develops various reports and charts using Crystal Reports, link charts, or similar industry standard reporting tools. Prepares detailed reports and maintains accurate records. Makes presentations on crime related data to the public and community groups. Represents the department at meetings of professional organizations, other agencies, citizen groups and/or private individuals. Receives and responds to requests for information or complaints from the public or City staff. Requirements include: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social/Behavioral Science or a related field. Possession of a Crime Analysis certification from the California Department of Justice Program is highly desirable. Two years of recent, paid related work experience compiling and analyzing crime data and information.
