Overview

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) provides a broad range of commercial property, casualty and specialty insurance coverages with a strong brand and balance sheet. We are a values-based organization that emphasizes respect, integrity, excellence, collaboration, and passion. We value diversity and foster an inclusive environment where every teammate can contribute and be recognized. Job Opportunity: BHSI is seeking a Product Owner to join our Small Commercial Technology Team. This role helps build the modern platform powering BHSI’s expansion into the Small Commercial insurance market. Core work centers on a new Policy Administration System and an evolving ecosystem aligned with market needs and product roadmaps. This role requires expertise in product development and Agile delivery, plus a strong background in commercial insurance—especially how underwriting, policy servicing, and product strategy intersect. The ideal candidate will have experience working with business teams in the insurance space and will bring domain knowledge to help shape a scalable, compliant, and efficient platform. You will translate strategy into execution and collaborate with stakeholders across Underwriting, Operations, Claims, Product, Actuarial, Legal, and Distribution to ensure solutions support long-term scale. This is a build-first environment that values simplicity and effective team dynamics, not just what is built. Duties & Responsibilities

In partnership with Product Manager, own the product vision and roadmap for critical platform capabilities in collaboration with Underwriting, Technology, and other business stakeholders. Manage and refine the product backlog, ensuring stories are clear, prioritized, and aligned to business value, technical feasibility, and platform vision. Act as the voice of the customer and translate business processes, regulatory needs, and strategic initiatives into actionable stories and workflows. Collaborate daily with engineering, QA, architecture, and other cross-functional partners to clarify requirements, remove roadblocks, and support high-quality delivery. Contribute to the evolution of Agile practices, participating in sprint planning, retrospectives, demos, and quarterly planning. Drive alignment with broader business goals, coordinating with other product owners on platform initiatives as appropriate. Define and track KPIs and success metrics to assess product health and drive continuous delivery of value. Champion user experience and system simplicity, ensuring the platform is sustainable and operationally effective. Lead post-launch support, including defect triage, user feedback analysis, and ongoing feature enhancements. Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and data standards, proactively surfacing risks or dependencies impacting delivery. Qualifications, Skills And Experience

5+ years of experience in product ownership, platform management, or business systems analysis. Strong commercial insurance experience is required, particularly in underwriting, policy administration, product development, or claims. Proven ability to work cross-functionally and drive clarity across complex initiatives. Comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where agility, ownership, and problem-solving are essential. Familiarity with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence) and backlog management best practices. Experience with process mapping and visualization tools (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio). Understanding of enterprise system design, data models, and integration patterns. Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization. A bias for action, a builder’s mindset, and an appreciation for simplicity over complexity. BHSI Offers

A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates. A dynamic, action-oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on doing the right thing for customers, teammates, and stakeholders.
