Mid-Level Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our Operations team as either an
Assistant Project Manager
or a
Cost Manager
depending on experience and career focus. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the financial and operational success of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in project coordination, cost control, and budget management, with the ability to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and owners. Whether supporting overall project delivery as an Assistant Project Manager or specializing in cost oversight as a Cost Manager, this role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality execution. Key Responsibilities Project & Team Support (Assistant Project Manager focus): Assist in managing, planning, and directing all project activities from preconstruction through closeout.
Develop and maintain project schedules (CPM) to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
Coordinate subcontractor scope reviews, author subcontract agreements, and oversee performance.
Support field teams and participate in site visits to track progress and address challenges.
Facilitate communication between stakeholders, subcontractors, and owners to ensure alignment.
Cost Management & Financial Oversight (Cost Manager focus): Manage project budgets and track cost performance, including forecasting and variance analysis.
Review, process, and track subcontractor change orders, owner change orders, and cost of work.
Develop, prepare, and submit accurate owner billings in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate cost reporting systems to ensure transparency and financial control.
Partner with project managers and field staff to monitor productivity, budget impacts, and risk.
Shared Responsibilities: Ensure projects are executed according to design documents, schedules, and budgets.
Implement quality assurance and compliance procedures.
Negotiate and communicate with owners, design teams, and public entities.
Uphold company policies, standards, and values in daily project activities.
Perform other duties as needed to support project success.
Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction as a Project Engineer, Cost Engineer, or similar role (no residential).
Strong knowledge of construction practices, field operations, and cost control methods.
Proficiency in Procore, Timberline, Microsoft Excel, Word; scheduling experience with P6 preferred.
Detail-oriented, reliable, and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and negotiation skills with a collaborative approach.
Willingness to visit project sites weekly (frequency depends on project scope).
Dedicated team player with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
