Overview

Director, Patient Advocacy & Professional Relations - ILD/Respiratory at Boehringer Ingelheim. This role leads integrated Patient Advocacy & Professional Relations (PAR) strategy across a therapeutic area, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to incorporate patient and professional perspectives into drug development, education, and go-to-market plans. The position is on-site in Ridgefield, CT with hybrid flexibility (2-3 days on-site). Compensation

This position offers a base salary typically between $170,000 and $269,000. The role may be eligible for a variable or performance-based bonus and other compensation elements. For an overview of benefits, see company materials. Responsibilities

Develop and lead the execution of integrated PAR TA strategy and initiatives, achieving objectives and enabling Boehringer Ingelheim as a leader in the therapeutic area. Provide global perspective while ensuring US alignment by collaborating with global patient advocacy colleagues. Drive an integrated TA/asset/cross-PE&A approach to ICP, launch readiness, and cross-functional collaboration to optimize output. Develop and manage patient advocacy budgets and monitor expenditures; revise spend as needed. Oversee budget accountability of direct reports across all TAs. Lead external partnerships, collaborations, sponsorships, and identify opportunities that advance the company’s objectives and those of non-profit organizations. Serve as the point of contact with asset/brand/medical/Value & Access leadership and represent PE&A/PAR in relevant meetings and workstreams. Collaborate with leadership to develop communication recommendations and policy viewpoints across therapeutic areas. Lead and coach a team of professionals; provide mentoring, performance management, development, and succession planning. Ensure compliance with legal and company policy in external partnerships and sponsorships; work with cross-functional teams to maintain efficiency and adherence. Foster cross-PE&A/TA collaboration, best practice sharing, and capabilities building; leverage patient insights to influence therapeutic areas. Incorporate patient perspectives into disease education programs, clinical trial design, and research collaborations. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred in healthcare administration, public health, social work with a healthcare/patient advocacy focus or related field. 10+ years in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry. Strong leadership, team management, and the ability to influence outcomes with and without authority. Strategic thinking, problem solving, partnerships, and account management skills. Exceptional communication and executive presence; proficient in writing and editing. Experience building relationships with patient communities, healthcare professionals, leadership, and external partners. Knowledge in patient advocacy, professional relations, patient engagement, government relations, marketing, and philanthropy is preferred. Understanding of brand and franchise needs across scientific, medical, economic, and policy matters in the therapeutic areas. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required). Must be 18 years of age or older.
