Job Summary: The Lead Planer Mill Operations position is crucial in supporting the supervisor in managing the planer mill's daily activities. In this role, you will lead a dedicated team, adhere to safety protocols, maintain machinery, and ensure our lumber meets the highest quality standards. Your collaboration with various departments will be key to coordinating production schedules and driving company goals. What you will do: Lead and Leadership: Guide, train, and oversee the planer mill staff including machine operators, laborers, and maintenance personnel. Schedule shifts and delegate tasks for maximum productivity and operational coverage. Step in as a supervisor when required to maintain smooth operations. Operational Management: Help oversee the operation of planer mill equipment, ensuring proper setup and maintenance. Coordinate with the sawmill and other departments for a consistent supply of rough lumber and an efficient workflow. Monitor production output to ensure alignment with quality and quantity standards. Quality Control: Assist in inspecting lumber quality, identifying defects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Implement and maintain quality control processes to provide consistent product quality. Collaborate with the quality assurance team to resolve quality issues and execute corrective actions. Maintenance and Safety: Ensure all machinery is properly serviced and functioning optimally. Support the implementation and enforcement of safety protocols for a secure working environment. Conduct regular safety meetings and training to promote a culture of safety. Administrative Duties: Assist in maintaining production records including daily outputs, equipment downtime, and attendance. Help prepare reports on production metrics and inventory levels. Aid in presenting KPI data to management. Continuous Improvement: Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance overall productivity and efficiency. Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to keep the operations competitive. Work with management to develop and implement strategic initiatives for the planer mill. What you will need: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or degrees are advantageous. Skills: Strong leadership abilities and experience in team management. Excellent understanding of planer mill machinery and operations. Proficient in quality control methods and production processes. Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Physical Requirements: Capability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods. Strength to lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds. Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. Work Environment: This role takes place in a mill environment, which may have exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, and eye protection is mandatory.
