Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS)
is seeking an
Advanced Information Technologist — Cloud Data Engineer
to join our growing
Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team
in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA; San Diego, CA; Long Beach, CA; Mesa, AZ; or Hazelwood, MO. Our team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders across BDS business programs and functions and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products. Position summary Join the Solutions team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA; San Diego, CA; Long Beach, CA; Mesa, AZ; or Hazelwood, MO to design, build, and maintain consumer‑facing applications, APIs, and tooling that enable reliable dataset delivery, access, and observability for downstream users. You will develop cloud‑native AWS applications with React front ends, integrate with DBaaS‑backed services, implement secure authorization patterns (RBAC/ABAC), and collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Data Architects to operationalize datasets and SLAs. Key responsibilities Develop and maintain responsive React-based front-end applications and dashboards that enable dataset discovery, access requests, and consumer workflows. Build, test, and deploy backend services and APIs (Python/Node/Java) that interface with DBaaS instances and dataset delivery pipelines; design RESTful and/or GraphQL endpoints as appropriate. Implement cloud‑native solutions on AWS using managed services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, RDS/Aurora, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, KMS). Integrate authorization and access-control logic: enforce RBAC and support ABAC attributes in services; leverage centralized policy evaluation and entitlement workflows. Produce IaC (Terraform or CloudFormation) for application infra and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD) for automated builds/deployments; include policy/infra tests in pipelines. Instrument applications with observability: logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerts for performance, access anomalies, and SLA adherence. Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Architects to surface dataset metadata, link applications to enterprise ontologies/canonical models, and implement dataset handoffs. Author and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and user-facing guides; participate in agile ceremonies and sprint delivery. Participate in on‑call rotations for application incidents and support triage/incident response. Basic qualifications (required) 2 years professional experience as a Full Stack or Frontend/Backend Engineer building production web applications. Hands‑on experience building React applications (hooks, state management, component design, testing). Experience developing backend services and APIs in Python, Node.js, or Java and working with relational databases (SQL) and managed DB services (RDS/Aurora). Practical experience with AWS cloud services for compute, storage, networking, and monitoring (Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, RDS, CloudWatch). Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, Git workflows). Proficiency with automated testing (unit, integration, end‑to‑end) and front‑end testing frameworks. Strong skills in HTML/CSS, responsive design, and accessibility best practices. Familiarity with authentication/authorization patterns (OAuth, JWT, RBAC) and practical exposure to attribute‑based or policy‑driven controls (ABAC). Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to translate stakeholder requirements into technical designs. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. Preferred qualifications (desired) Experience integrating with data platforms (Palantir Foundry, data catalogs) or working in data consumption/solutions spaces. Familiarity with enterprise data ontologies, dataset metadata models, or semantic layers. Experience operating in AWS GovCloud or regulated environments and applying compliance controls. Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) and Docker. Knowledge of caching strategies, materialized views, or other techniques to improve query/consumer performance. Familiarity with security tooling: IAM policies, Secrets Manager, KMS, encryption patterns, audit logging. Experience in aviation, defense, or other regulated industries and working in matrixed organizations. Boeing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, genetic factors, military/veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
