A full-time, tenured faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2026. The appointment will be at Hunter College, with tenure in the Department of Sociology and responsibility to the Asian American Studies Program. This position will be associated with the new CUNY Graduate Center Discipline in Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies.

Responsibilities

Teach courses in Asian American studies and sociology and contribute to the undergraduate programs in the Asian American Studies Program and Sociology.

Provide service within Hunter College and collaborate with various programs and institutions across Hunter College; engage with the PhD BRES (Black, Race and Ethnic Studies) Programs at GC-CUNY.

Maintain an active program of research, scholarly publication, advising, mentoring, and public outreach; contribute to the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary orientation of the Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies PhD and MA programs.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Sociology or equivalent social science. The candidate should be a Sociologist and an Asian Americanist.

Ability to teach effectively with demonstrated scholarship in relevant areas; ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Expected to have moved substantially beyond the dissertation, with a well-received first book or the disciplinary-equivalent, and a strong record of research, funding, advising, mentoring, and public outreach.

Interest in contributing to both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary aspects of the Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies PhD/MA programs; this position is part of a Mellon Foundation-funded faculty cluster hire at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications with a salary range of $109,898–$129,041. CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs, along with mentoring and support for research and publication.
