Mountain View, CA, USA About the job: As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture. The Product Architecture Lead of Pixel Advanced Architecture is responsible for identifying, integrating and validating new technologies for the benefit of future generations of Pixel products. You will manage a team of electrical and product design engineers in the early definition of new products and new technologies. You have the technical experience to discuss engineering trade-offs across multiple disciplines including antennas, cameras, sensors, displays and batteries. Your team will validate new technologies to ensure they offer reliability. You will partner with the global NPI engineering teams as they bring these future products to market - offering ongoing support and bringing lessons learned back into the definition process of next-generation devices. Responsibilities
Balance exploration with plausibility in the earliest definition of future product concepts. Work across all Pixel-branded product lines including Phones, Foldables, Watches and Buds. Promote cross-functional teams on the product goals and generate excitement around solving difficult technical problems. Communicate key updates to leadership throughout the organization and build consensus around the paths forward. Collaborate with Product Management and Industrial Design on the initial trade-off space of new products and iterate to surface engaging propositions for the next generation of devices. Anticipate product-level trade-offs such as battery life, cost, reliability and antenna performance vs. industrial design. Prototype and validate the design options to converge on an optimal implementation for new products. Work with NPI engineering leadership to transition new product architectures for business. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 12 years of experience in product engineering for consumer electronics. 5 years of experience managing an engineering team. Preferred qualifications:
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. 5 years of experience managing a multidisciplinary team distributed across multiple global locations. Experience in shipping multiple consumer electronics products, in a lead or principal engineer role. Knowledge of common technologies used in consumer products (e.g., PCBA fabrication, plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping, batteries, displays, camera systems). Excellent communication skills, and ability to present to executive leadership. Google is proud to be an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We are committed to building a workforce that is representative of the users we serve, creating a culture of belonging, and providing an equal employment opportunity regardless of race, creed, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy or related condition (including breastfeeding), expecting or parents-to-be, criminal histories consistent with legal requirements, or any other basis protected by law.
