Position Summary The intern position is an entry-level assignment that requires the recipient to perform a variety of professional functions. It is characterized by a basic knowledge of the planning field with a fundamental understanding of accepted theories and common practices.

Performs project coordination for department projects as assigned. The primary project will be to assist with the Lewisville 2035 comprehensive planning process including assisting with social media promotion and public outreach. The intern will also help with current planning needs including plan review. As needed the intern will assist with researching emerging topics of interest to the City of Lewisville, past topics of research include Backyard Cottages and Annexation records.

Essential Functions

Reviews development applications for compliance with city ordinances. Assists with public outreach for the Lewisville 2035 Plan including organizing logistics and interacting with members of the public. Draft social media posts and help design social media engagement for the Lewisville 2035 Plan. Researches current planning topics as assigned. Creating databases or tables of research findings. Creates and presents findings in memos and formal presentations. Assists with zoning verification letters and certificate of occupancy reviews. Works in-depth with multiple departments including Engineering, Community Relations and Tourism, ITS, City Secretary's Office, Finance, and Public Services. Reaches out to other Cities' Planning departments for research as needed. Provides administrative support as needed. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Position Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required. Must be currently enrolled in a college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's academic program pursuing a degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Urban and Regional Studies, City and Regional Planning, Architecture or a closely related field.

Experience:

Work experience or coursework in planning or a related field required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to:

Ability to gather, process and organize information. Ability to write in both formal and informal styles. Ability to track progress and accomplishments Skills:

Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, e-mail and the internet and google. Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS). Preferences:

Students pursuing a Master's in City and Regional Planning, Urban Planning or a closely related field. Experience using Microsoft Excel and/or other databases. Familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, sketch-up and/or Microstation or other 2D & 3D modeling software. Familiarity with Adobe creative suite and visual thinking strategies. Students who have had coursework in urban planning, research and analysis, proposal writing, community development and collaborative planning.

Other Requirements:

Must submit to and pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test. Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy. Work Hours
