Miscellaneous Steel Project Manager | Greater Washington, DC Region
Commercial & Industrial Projects | $100,000–$130,000 + Bonus
Full-time, direct-hire role with an established custom steel fabricator seeking a Project Manager experienced in engineered-to-order miscellaneous metals. Oversee projects from design coordination and detailing through fabrication, delivery, and final installation across commercial and light industrial sectors.
The position requires direct involvement with internal teams, fabrication shop, field crews, and clients to drive schedule performance, cost control, and field execution.
Responsibilities include coordinating drawings and design details, conducting field measurements, managing fabrication and erection site coordination, handling change orders, and maintaining client relationships through project close-out. Regional travel to job sites required, generally within driving distance.
Requirements:
US Residency with a minimum of 5 years of experience managing fabrication and installation of miscellaneous steel systems; stairs, railings, platforms, ladders, and architectural metals—plus strong communication, scheduling, and contract management skills. This role involves coordination across design, production, and field operations, with a strong emphasis on schedule control and site execution for commercial and light industrial projects. Responsibilities:
Coordinate with drafting/detailing teams and monitor drawing timelines. Communicate with designers and construction teams to gather and clarify project requirements. Conduct field measurements and align with adjacent trades. Manage schedules for fabrication, delivery, and installation. Oversee on-site activities and resolve field-level issues. Price and track change orders; negotiate with general contractors or owners. Work with internal teams on budgeting and project financials. Prepare close-out documentation and maintain professional relationships with clients and field crews. Travel to regional job sites as needed, mostly within driving distance. Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience managing fabrication and field installation projects involving custom metal systems like stairs, handrails, ladders, platforms, and other functional or decorative steel elements Strong communication and scheduling skills. Proven ability to navigate complex, multi-phase commercial construction jobs. Professional communication skills with experience dealing with owners and subcontractors.
