Site Manager – Civils (Substation Project)
Plymouth | ⚡ Energy & Infrastructure | Contract (Outside IR35)
RGB are proud to be working with a leading global contractor delivering critical infrastructure projects across the UK’s power and energy sectors. With a growing portfolio of major works supporting the UK’s low-carbon transition, they are now looking to appoint a Civils-biased Site Manager to oversee the construction of a new HV Substation in Plymouth.
This role will see you manage the civil engineering elements of the project – including groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, foundations, and structural/enabling works – ensuring delivery is safe, compliant, and on programme. You’ll take responsibility for site operations while working closely with the electrical and HV teams to achieve seamless project completion.
Essential Qualifications & Competencies
Grid Competent Person – NSI 6 & 8 (Full).
Previous TP137 or SR163 appointment.
SMSTS.
IOSH Environmental (or equivalent).
Health & Safety Guide 47 qualification.
First Aid – full 3 day certificate.
Minimum 5 years’ Site Management experience on HV substation projects.
Strong civils knowledge (earthworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, foundations, structures).
Desirable Skills & Experience
Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor certification.
Knowledge of managing impressed voltages.
Broad understanding of substation equipment from multiple OEMs.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage subcontractors.
Strong track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Contract Details
Duration: 12–18 months (long-term project).
Engagement: CIS or Ltd Company (Outside IR35).
Location: Plymouth – HV Substation project.
