The Position

Are you interested in spending your time outside at the pool? Make a splash by diving into an aquatics position with one of the fastest growing cities in the Inland Empire! Under general supervision of a Recreation & Community Services Coordinator, Senior Pool Managers complete recreational work, supervise a variety of aquatic activities at Ontario's five (5) swimming pool sites, and perform other related work as necessary. This classification is distinguished from the Pool Manager by its supervisory activities at high school pools and community pools. It is further distinguished from the Pool Manager due to its interaction with school district personnel and participation in aquatic program planning activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in responding to emergency situations, as well as have excellent organizational and time management skills.

The Senior Pool Manager is a paid, part-time/temporary position in the City's year-round aquatics program scheduled to work no more than 29 hours per week and is not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans. The work schedule is determined by availability, operating hours, and the incumbent's skill level in the position. Recreation & Community Services Department The City of Ontario's Recreation & Community Services Department provides opportunities for wholesome, year-round public recreational services for every age group in the City of Ontario. Through a comprehensive array of programs and events, the Department continually strives to meet the City Council's goal to provide enhanced recreational, educational, and cultural activities to the community. The Department operates six community centers, a senior center, provides programming in over thirty parks, three dog parks, and oversees the management of a municipal golf course. In the next couple of years, the Department will oversee the development of a 150+ acre premiere regional sports complex; the building of the first phase (approximately 130 acres) of the Grand Park in Ontario Ranch; enhancing park amenities throughout the City; and putting plans in place to add new community centers throughout the City. Downtown Ontario Examples of Essential Functions The essential functions typically performed by the Senior Pool Manager include the following:

Supervises aquatic activities for the recreation program including swim lessons, recreational swim, swim team, and other related activities. Supervises and directs the activities of staff, including employee selection, work assignment, performance evaluation, employee development and complaint resolution. Performs lifeguarding and class instruction. Assists with receiving and responding to public and community group recreation and community services inquiries, requests, and complaints and assists with customer services and providing appropriate recommendations. Plans, directs, and monitors a continuing aquatics safety program. Interacts with school district personnel in coordinating day-to-day facility use. Inspects and monitors facilities and equipment for safety, maintenance, and cleanliness and ensures compliance with administrative and safety policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintains accurate records and reports. Assists the aquatics supervisor in the planning and supervision of the aquatics program. Assists with training and ensures staff attendance and participation in required training. Assists in promotion of activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines Education High School diploma or recognized equivalent. Experience One season as a Pool Manager or equivalent. Desirable

Previous supervisory experience in a recreation setting. Three years of part-time aquatics experience. Completion of college level coursework in recreation or related field. Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification. Licenses, Certifications, and Training Valid American Red Cross certifications:

Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid for the professional rescuer or equivalent. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) NOTE

Special Requirements Ability to work various schedules including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical Demands Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting and to stay in the pool for prolonged periods of time. Environmental Demands Work is primarily performed outdoors in a pool environment with wet and slippery conditions; incumbents are exposed to variable weather conditions and may be exposed to chlorine, acids, and other chemicals at aquatics facilities, as well as blood and body fluids rendering first aid and CPR.
