BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position provides professional service and technical work supporting the operation of one of eight fish culture facilities in the propagation and stocking of various sizes and species of fish to enhance recreational sport fisheries, as well as conserve and restore native fish. The position is responsible for supervision of on-station fish culturists and directing the implementation of all on-station work programs while ensuring all day-to-day operational necessities and actions happen in a timely and appropriate manner. The position provides professional and scientific work in assisting fisheries biological staff. The position is also responsible for overseeing fish culturist-led public educational and outreach events, ensuring program alignment with outreach goals established by the Division, and coordinating with the Department's Information and Education Division. The position receives general direction from the Fish Culture Supervisor regarding priorities and operational needs supporting all aspects fish husbandry, fish stocking, and the maintenance, construction, operation, and security of facility infrastructure. The employee must be able to work in diverse physical work environments, often in adverse weather conditions. Some weekend and holiday work is required.

Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize facility needs, including the ability to train new personnel. Willingness to be open to new ideas and approaches to support and improve operations. Ability to represent the agency professionally through positive interactions, collaborations, and coordinating with external partners, the public, and Agency staff. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A four (4) year combination of training, education, and/or experience in the biological sciences with an emphasis in fish culture or a directly related fisheries field and must include at least one (1) year of experience working at a fish cultural facility.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

(Prior to attaining permanent status in this class): All employees must possess or be able to obtain a valid Maine Class B Driver's License.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

The employee will be required to live on site to provide security for the facility and respond to any emergencies that may arise.
