NEXT LEVEL ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Experienced and results-driven manager to lead our Building Automation Systems (BAS) design team. This role will oversee the engineering and design of HVAC control systems, lighting automation, energy management solutions, and integrated smart building technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge in BAS and HVAC systems, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for delivering innovative, efficient building solutions.
This position may be reporting to the Construction Operations Manager or Branch Manager.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a team of design engineers and CAD technicians to develop control system designs for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Oversee the preparation of project submittals, control drawings, network architectures, and sequence of operations. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications (ASHRAE, NFPA, BACnet, etc.). Coordinate closely with sales, project management, and field teams to ensure seamless project execution. Provide technical mentorship, training, and career development for engineering staff. Review and approve engineering documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and submittal packages. Maintain design quality and accuracy while meeting project timelines and budgets. Assist in evaluating and selecting hardware, software, and third-party systems. Participate in resource planning, hiring, and team performance evaluations. Provide leadership and participation in engineering/material cost reviews, prior to purchasing. Work closely with panel shop to ensure quality production, including UL requirements. Provides direct supervision technically and developmentally to assigned employees, including but not limited to HR functions, financial and technical training and mentoring, and day to day support to ensure efficient and productive workflow for the operations team. Provide input to sales and operations regarding the technical and business considerations for construction and service projects, including but not limited to estimating, timing, special resource needs, or other aspects peculiar to specific projects. Forecasts and manages to ensure appropriate staffing levels for all aspect of operations team need based on employee skill sets. Ensures a level of efficiency, productivity and work-life-balance for the division(s) they are assigned. Active participation within the Next Level Leadership Council, with additional focus on overall business success. Oversee material needs and timing to maximize cash flow and material efficiency of the business portfolio, but also insight into individual projects, in conjunction with project managers. Ensure that assigned projects are invoiced correctly and is involved in collections activities to minimize collections aging. Be able to recommend technical solutions to both the operations team and the sales team. Identifies change order opportunities and coordinates with sales to document, pursue, and book them. Communicate with internal employees to ensure that labor hours are accurate and timely, taking into consideration that the estimated productivity is achieved in all areas. Communicate with external organizations such as consulting engineers, building owners, and other contractors to ensure accurate and timely engineering. Review all engineered submittals ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and customer expectations as well as location standards. Works with direct reports to assist them in their development of personal goals, review these goals with direct reports throughout the year and provide annual review as well as administration of salaries for these direct reports. Otherdutieswill be assigned as needed. Skills & Qualifications:
5+ years of proven industry experience, including 2+ years in leading teams. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is a plus). Other technical experience such as on the job training programs, etc. may meet this requirement. Experienceandexpertise includingbutnotlimitedto:
An understanding of basic computer systems including MS Office Suite of products. Theabilityto configure anddebugbasic computer problems. Someexperience withprogramming.
Abilitytotroubleshootbasic electric and electronic circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical andelectronicdiagrams. Abilitytocommunicate verballyandin writing. Abilityto understand theissues andperceptionsothershave. Creativelyand successfullyworkthroughissuesto achieve a successfuloutcome for customer and employee satisfaction. Thorough understandingof HVAC operations withina facility. Understandingof the DDC that control buildings.
Understand the othersystems involved in the mechanical and electrical portions of buildingcontrols.
Experience to provide extensive integration support for a multitude of building systems. A strong business and financial awareness and the ability to apply these to a portfolio of projects to maximize cash flow, profits, and customer and employee satisfaction. Essential Functions:
Beable tosit for an extended period of time. Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material,etc. Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on constructionsites. Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day ona constructionsite. Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Next Level’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive a companyvehicle. Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
