Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides perioperative patient care, specifically in the intraoperative phase, in both the scrub and circulating roles according to established guidelines. Serves a diverse patient population from neonates to geriatrics. This position requires call, weekends, nights, and holidays as scheduled.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction. Prepares for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating needs of patients, surgeons, anesthesia, and other OR team members. Provides a safe environment by implementing aseptic techniques and managing physical and psychological aspects of care. Collects and analyzes data, assesses patients, and develops nursing diagnoses. Communicates effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and families. Maintains knowledge of equipment setup and function. Initiates and directs room cleanup and turnover. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates in orientation and training of new staff. Assists in maintaining physician preference cards and other OR resources. Utilizes computers for surgical documentation, specimen disposition, and information retrieval. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities. Attends departmental meetings and inservices. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Iowa. Operating Room experience preferred. Basic Life Support certification within six weeks of hire, from recognized credentialing bodies such as the American Heart Association. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three months of hire. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Our Commitment
