Overview
Montefiore Medical Center is launching a new acute inpatient psychiatric facility dedicated to providing high-quality, short-term psychiatric care for children and adolescents. This specialized unit will enhance access to timely, developmentally appropriate mental health services, offering a safe, structured, and compassionate environment to support patients in crisis and help stabilize their condition. Position: Psychiatry Technician on the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit. This role delivers direct patient care and clinical support under the guidance of registered nurses, maintains a safe and structured environment, engages patients in therapeutic activities, and assists children and adolescents with daily needs during hospitalization. The technician also performs essential clinical tasks, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing, in alignment with a trauma-informed and developmentally sensitive model of care. Location/Department: Bronx, New York; Department: Psych - Acute Clinical OPS; Bargaining Unit: 1199; Work Shift: Night; Work Days: Alternate Weekends; Scheduled Hours: 11 PM–7:30 AM; Scheduled Daily Hours: 7.5 hours; Hourly Rate: $31.37 (hiring rate, may be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education or other factors). Provide direct patient care and clinical support under supervision of registered nurses. Maintain a safe, structured environment and engage patients in therapeutic activities. Assist children and adolescents with daily needs during hospitalization. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing as required and aligned with trauma-informed care. Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required; two years of full-time experience in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral health care in a high-volume, intensive care setting is preferred, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. Graduate of a State Certified PCT/PCA program. Completion of training and certification to perform vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, and blood glucose monitoring. Successful completion of an appropriate training program in the application and use of restraints and seclusion. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
