As a Heavy Equipment Technician, your more typical responsibilities will include:
- Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on equipment and established products as requested by the Service Manager and Service Writer.
- Prepares all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.
- Maintains condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
- Complete dis-assembly and inspection, as efficiently as possible, so parts may be ordered and machine work can be scheduled promptly.
- Maintain records and account for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing both customer and dealership equipment.
As a Heavy Equipment Field Technician (if qualified), you will be working in the shop to train then will work from a field service repair truck to repair, conduct maintenance, and address any customer concerns onsite at the customer location outside.
Job Requirements Include
- Willingness to learn. Experience working as a mechanic or technician on heavy construction, industrial or diesel equipment is strongly preferred for shop technician and 3 or more years of this experience is required for field technicians.
- Basic Service Technician or Mechanic certification preferred.
- Recent and regular computer usage, specifically in running codes and submitting work order information is strongly preferred.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Valid, clean driver’s license required for field technicians.
- Strong communication skill and self-motivated.
- Physical Effort: Shop Mechanics constantly work on machines in the shop and Field Technicians constantly work on machines onsite at customer locations; which requires physical demands on a daily basis. They must be able to move on/under machines to perform repairs and services. They often have to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly without assistance. There will be occasions where shop mechanics must operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes as well. They frequently stand for long periods of time and often kneel, bend, lay on their backs, etc. to perform repairs, services, and/or maintenance.
- Working Conditions: Shop Mechanics are constantly working in the repair shop to perform their tasks and duties. Work is performed on even surfaces on a hard floor in the shop. There is exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, cuts, bruises, strains, loud noises, etc. To combat these potential dangers and risk hazards, Shop Mechanics must follow strict safety procedures, proper equipment safety, and PPE. Field technicians are working outdoors or onsite at customer locations and are exposed to the elements in addition to dirt, grease, fumes, cuts, bruises, strains, loud noises, etc. Field technicians are required to maintain both safety PPE and safe driving records daily.
- Travel: Little to none for shop tech; daily for field tech.
