Description Police Dispatcher
Midnight-8am 4on/2off Statement of Duties : The Police Dispatcher is responsible for answering 911 fire, medical, and police calls, non-emergency phones, dispatching officers and EMS/Fire to locations given and talks and takes statements from the general public at the counter and writes reports. The Dispatcher also enters calls on the computer so that the officers can keep track of where they were dispatched and can finish the call in the cruiser. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. Examples of Duties

Answers 911 and non-emergency phone lines. Responsible for accurate information being sent to officers in cruisers over the radio. Assists the general public with any questions or complaints. Performs record checks for motor vehicles and warrant checks. Handles walk-in reports. Monitors radio for inter-town calls. Enter, locate and cancel data regarding stolen motor vehicles in LEAPS/NCIC and missing persons. Answers calls for towing; calls Springfield District court to establish bail.
Qualifications
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience : Graduate of a two year college with an Associate's degree with one to three (1-3) years related work experience ;
or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Special Requirements : None
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill Knowledge : Some working knowledge of emergency dispatch procedures and protocols.
Abilities : Ability to become certified in E-911, IMC, LEAPS/NCIC and CORI certified; ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed and effective manner under stressful situations; ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing and to calm individuals down in order to obtain information; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with Town employees, Town officials and the public.
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent organization skills; good keyboarding skills; good data processing skill in the use of personal computers and office software including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
