Position Summary
The Custodian position assists the Custodial Coordinator in keeping the buildings clean. Duties include cleaning and refinishing floors (Vinyl Composite Tile, Luxury Vinyl Tile, Ceramic Tile, Concrete, wood and carpet), sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, event setups, cleaning restrooms, washing walls, wiping down white boards, emptying trash, and servicing/maintaining equipment relevant to the department. Uniforms and personal protective equipment are provided and must be worn at all times. This position reports to the Custodial Coordinator and ultimately the Executive Director of Plant Operations.
Essential Functions
- Maintains a clean and sanitary environment in buildings that is welcoming to students, employees and community members.
- Promotes, supports and participates in student recruitment and retention efforts.
Organizational Culture
- Maintains a culture of consistency and equity when dealing with all members of the campus community independent of race, gender, or sexuality.
- Supports and promotes a culture of safety within the department.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds safely and independently.
- Must be able to move furniture in and out of rooms.
Fiscal Stewardship
- Keeps the buildings clean and tidy year round under the direction of the Custodial Coordinator and ultimately the Executive Director of Plant Operations.
- Works efficiently by themselves performing duties such as setting up events, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, etc.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge: Safety practices and procedures relevant to job duties.
Skills:
- Safe operation of custodial equipment (e.g., carpet shampooer, buffer, vacuum, etc.).
- Effective communication whether one-on-one or in a group setting.
Able to:
- Maintain healthy working relationships with all members of the campus community.
- Receive and champion directives from supervisors.
Qualifications
- Must possess a minimum of a high school degree and have no less than 3 years of experience working in a custodial capacity.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Salary Range
$28,026 - $32,931
