Quality Control Technician - 3rd Shift
Location:
Homewood, IL
Hourly : $25hr - $28hr
Hours : 11pm-7am (will train on 1st shift then transition to third)
Hire Type : Contract to Hire
We're seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Technician to join our food manufacturing team in Chicago. This hands-on role is responsible for performing routine and non-routine testing on in-process samples, finished products, ingredients, and manufacturing supplies to ensure the highest standards of quality and food safety.
This is a 3rd shift, on-site position (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Central Time). Training will occur on 1st shift before transitioning to 3rd. Plant operations run Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays and rare Sundays.
Key Responsibilities : Perform routine and specialized tests on ingredients, in-process, and finished goods. Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on laboratory equipment while following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Accurately document and input test data into computer systems for traceability and reporting. Monitor and communicate non-conformances to production and supervisory teams; assist in identifying root causes and corrective actions. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and request timely replacements or repairs. Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues and support continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in food safety and GMP programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall plant quality and safety objectives. Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or laboratory training preferred. 1-5 years of experience in a food laboratory or food manufacturing quality environment. Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, food safety, and quality systems. Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and other food safety standards. Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with SAP or similar systems preferred. Certifications in SQF or PCQI are a plus. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with moving equipment. Flexibility to work varying shifts when needed.
