Overview Hardware Reliability Engineer (Starlink Product) – Hawthorne, CA. SpaceX is expanding its low-latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers globally. The Hardware Reliability Team at Starlink is an interdisciplinary team focused on the reliability of mechanical and electrical hardware required to connect our customers to our satellites. The role spans exposure to mechanical, electrical, RF, software, test, and other domains as you collaborate with core groups to bring hardware from concept to high-volume production.
You will use data to understand factors that drive process and product reliability in design and manufacturing, identify and solve difficult technical problems, and influence product design and manufacturing processes. You will work hands-on on the factory floor and in the test lab to improve reliability and user experience.
Responsibilities Develop and implement reliability test strategies for new products and subcomponents to maximize field life and minimize early life failures
Develop, implement, and validate test and inspection processes for new and existing products and production processes, ensuring objective criteria and achievement of reliability goals
Design and execute novel environmental, RF, mechanical, and electrical testing techniques tailored to the product
Write test programs to exercise product functionality across varying conditions and environments
Automate reliability testing initiatives and reporting using data visualization and in-depth product knowledge
Define ongoing reliability testing strategies to monitor manufacturing processes and screen for long-term defects due to process and component variability
Monitor product and process quality during production ramp-up using analysis tools; drive improvements for underperforming quality metrics
Investigate production and test failures; identify and mitigate root causes to reduce risk and improve design and process reliability
Contain non-conforming product and guide production teams on quarantining and rework activities
Collaborate with hardware, software, manufacturing, and network engineering teams to maximize reliability across disciplines
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
1+ years of experience in test, analysis, manufacturing, or hardware development (internship and project experience applicable)
Preferred Skills and Experience Master’s degree in an engineering discipline

Experience with electronics and mechanical design and analysis, including RF knowledge
Programming experience in Python, C, and SQL with emphasis on data analysis and automation
Ability to think creatively and solve complex problems with minimal supervision, individually or in teams
Experience in fast-paced, iterative design environments within consumer electronics, mobile devices, aerospace, or related industries
Additional Requirements Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
Onsite work in Hawthorne, CA (remote/hybrid not considered)
