Summary Utilize critical thinking and interpersonal skills to perform a wide variety of tasks relevant to the manufacturing department. Work closely with the manufacturing manager, manufacturing technicians, quality department, engineering department, and field service department to analyze and solve complex engineering, manufacturing, and quality issues. Comfortable working alone and in cross-functional teams to drive action on manufacturing engineer projects. Experience working with both mechanical and electrical systems is required.
Responsibilities Review and optimize manufacturing methods, processes, tools, drawings, bill of materials, material flows, facility layouts, routers, schedules, and material packaging.
Develop, document, and revise technical documents such as manufacturing procedures, corrective action reports, service notices, and work instructions.
Update and digitize data collection methods and assess opportunities to implement statistical analysis to improve manufacturing processes.
Develop methods for tracking labor hours and calculating standard lead times for assemblies, sub-assemblies, and systems.
Identify and verify replacement components for purchased parts that have become obsolete.
Work with the quality department to review and implement ISO 9001:2015 standards as they pertain to the manufacturing department.
Work with the manufacturing technicians to request engineering drawing revisions (DCNs) when tolerances or other aspects of engineering drawings need to be revised.
Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers and technicians to improve mechanical and electrical designs and manufacturing methods.
Utilize Jira Kanban software to manage tasks and collaborate on manufacturing orders, quality inspections, and spare parts shipments.
Assist the manufacturing manager with monitoring and improving daily operations of the manufacturing department including electrical assemblies, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing order kitting.
Collaborate with other departments, suppliers, and vendors, to analyze and resolve manufacturing concerns.
Drive continuous improvement projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing processes.
Perform other duties as directed by the manufacturing manager.
Assist in testing and troubleshooting complex electric and mechanical systems/assemblies.
Read and interpret electrical schematics.
Some travel required as needed.
Work with cross-functional teams/inter-departments.
Qualifications BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related engineering field
2-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience working or advanced knowledge with both electrical and mechanical systems is required
Complex English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
Strong critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and attention to detail
Understanding of industrial engineering principles such as Lean Six Sigma, root cause analysis, statistical analysis, value stream mapping, continuous improvement, and Kanban
Ability to quickly learn and self-teach new computer software and skills
Understanding of how to read and interpret technical documentation
Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and projects and managing time efficiently
Proficiency with MS Office programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
Experience with ISO 9001:2015 is not required but is a plus
Willingness to learn complex electrical and mechanical systems as they pertain to linear particle accelerators (LINAC)
Must possess strong electrical background
Hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical assembly is a must

Compensation (California): The expected salary for this position in our California office is $75K. Pay is determined based on factors including depth of experience. Eligible for Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to program conditions.
